Common questions

Leaving work early?
Plan your coverage first.

In 2026, about 1 in 4 Volusia County Marketplace shoppers were ages 55 to 64, the largest age group CMS reports. Here are three common questions for people who live in Port Orange.

“I retired early. What covers me now?”

A Marketplace plan is often the first thing to check. Your tax credit uses the income you expect for the year you are covered. Pensions and money you take from an IRA can count. We help you add them up.

“Will my tax credit be the same as last year?”

Maybe not. As of October 9, 2026, under current law, the extra help some people got in past years ended after 2025, and Congress has not brought it back. If your income is over 400% of the poverty level, you generally can't get a tax credit. Near that level, your credit may be small.

“Is my hospital in the plan?”

In 2026, 96 of Volusia County's 154 Marketplace plans were HMOs. An HMO usually pays only for doctors and hospitals in its network, except in an emergency.

Which companies offered Marketplace plans in Volusia County for 2026?

Volusia County plans for 2026 came from 7 companies: Ambetter Health, Florida Blue, Florida Health Care Plans, Health First, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 list should be posted around November 1, 2026, when open enrollment starts.

I retired early. Will I qualify for a tax credit?

It depends mostly on your household income for the year you are covered. Apply with your best honest guess. Count any pension and most money you take out of retirement accounts. If your income changes, update your application right away. Then you are less likely to owe money at tax time.

I left my job before I was ready to retire. Can I sign up now?

Losing job-based coverage can qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. You usually have 60 days to pick a Marketplace plan. If you were offered COBRA, compare it with Marketplace plans before you decide. Our COBRA alternatives page has more.

Is Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach in every plan?

Don't assume it is. Each plan picks its own hospitals and doctors, and most Volusia County plans are HMOs. Look up the hospital in each plan's directory before you enroll.

Can I get a PPO in Volusia County?

Some. Of Volusia County's 154 Marketplace plans for 2026, 14 were PPOs. Another 19 were EPOs and 25 were POS plans. Each type has its own rules for doctors outside the network. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?

As of October 9, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.
