Common questions

Space Coast life
brings coverage questions.

About 1 in 4 Brevard County Marketplace shoppers in 2026 were ages 55 to 64. Here are three common questions for people who live in Melbourne.

“I work for myself. Where do I start?”

A Marketplace plan is often the first place to look. Your tax credit uses the income you expect for the year you are covered. If your work is seasonal, use your best honest guess, then update the application if income changes.

“I just moved here. Can I sign up now?”

Moving to a new ZIP code or county may let you sign up outside open enrollment. You usually have 60 days after the move. Some moves have extra rules, so we check with you.

“Is my hospital in the plan?”

In 2026, 94 of Brevard County's 152 Marketplace plans were HMOs. An HMO usually pays only for doctors and hospitals in its network, except in an emergency.

Which companies offered Marketplace plans in Brevard County for 2026?

Brevard County plans for 2026 came from 7 companies: Ambetter Health, Florida Blue, Florida Health Care Plans, Health First, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 list should be posted around November 1, 2026, when open enrollment starts.

I just moved to Melbourne. Can I get coverage now?

You may. Moving to a new ZIP code or county can qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. You usually have 60 days from the move to pick a plan. Some moves have extra rules, so ask us to check your situation.

Is Holmes Regional Medical Center in every plan?

Don't assume it is. Each plan picks its own hospitals and doctors, and most Brevard County plans are HMOs. Look up the hospital in each plan's directory before you enroll.

Can I get a PPO in Brevard County?

Some 2026 Brevard County Marketplace plans were not HMOs: 14 were PPOs, 19 were EPOs, and 25 were POS plans. Each type has its own rules for doctors outside the network. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

What if my income is very low?

As of October 4, 2026, Florida has not expanded Medicaid. Some adults with income below the poverty level do not qualify for Medicaid or for a tax credit. It is still worth applying, because children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities may qualify. Community health centers also charge based on what you can pay.

When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?

As of October 4, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.

Open enrollment starts November 1
