Losing job-based coverage can let you sign up outside open enrollment. You usually have 60 days to pick a Marketplace plan. We help you check your date.
Compare first. COBRA usually costs the full premium, plus up to 2%. A Marketplace plan may come with a tax credit based on your income for the year you are covered. We put them side by side.
In 2026, 146 of Broward County's 197 Marketplace plans were HMOs. An HMO usually pays only for doctors and hospitals in its network, except in an emergency.

What you get
If you wait too long after a job ends, you could miss your deadline. And if you skip the network check, a doctor visit could cost more than you planned. What you get from the call:
Each Broward County plan has its own network. Look up the hospital you would use in each plan before you sign up.
This is not a list of in-network hospitals for any plan. Networks can change each year.
Straight answers
Broward County plans for 2026 came from 10 companies: 22 Health, Ambetter Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Next, AvMed, Cigna Healthcare, Florida Blue, Molina Healthcare, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 list should be posted around November 1, 2026, when open enrollment starts.
Losing job-based coverage can qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. You usually have 60 days to pick a Marketplace plan. Our lost job coverage page has more on your choices.
Timing matters. If your COBRA runs out, you usually get 60 days to pick a Marketplace plan. If you choose to drop COBRA early, you usually have to wait for open enrollment. Ask us before you drop it.
Don't assume it is. Each plan picks its own hospitals and doctors, and most Broward County plans are HMOs. Look up the hospital in each plan's directory before you enroll.
Some. Of Broward County's 197 Marketplace plans for 2026, 14 were PPOs. Another 27 were EPOs and 10 were POS plans. Each type has its own rules for doctors outside the network. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.
As of October 10, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.
