Family questions

One household,
more than one answer.

A Marketplace family plan, Florida KidCare, Medicaid, or a job plan can each play a part. Three common family questions:

“Can my kids get coverage even if I don't qualify for much help?”

Florida KidCare is the state's coverage program for children under 19. It has four programs and matches each child to one. The program decides who qualifies, so check the current income rules at floridakidcare.org.

“My job covers me. Is it worth adding the family?”

Each person in your family is looked at on their own. If your job's family coverage costs too much, your spouse and kids may be able to get a tax credit instead. The FAQ below has the details.

“We're having a baby.”

A birth or adoption lets you enroll or change plans outside open enrollment. Plan ahead: look up which doctors and hospitals each plan covers before the baby arrives.

How we help

Family health insurance help
for the whole household.

We are an independent brokerage that works with families. We look at each person: parents, kids, and young adults. We check every family member's doctors and medicines, and we point you to public programs like Florida KidCare when they may fit. Those programs are run by the state, and you apply with them directly. Turning 65 or on Medicare? We help with Medicare too.

If your family gets little or no tax credit, we can also look at nationwide private PPO plans. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. And if you are thinking about protecting your family in other ways, you can request a life insurance quote. If you apply as a household, we can walk you through the HealthCare.gov application.

What you get

A path that fits
each person.

Families have more moving parts. A new baby has to be added in time. A child's doctor may not be in the plan. Missing a step can mean a gap in coverage or a surprise bill. By the end of our call, you will have:

  • The path that fits each person: a Marketplace plan, a job plan, or a kids' program to check
  • Your pediatrician and children's hospital looked up in each plan
  • A clear note on whether Florida KidCare or Medicaid is worth checking for your kids
  • The total cost for your family, with a plan chosen by December 15, 2026, so the family's coverage can begin January 1, 2027 (see all dates)

Children's hospitals in the Orlando area

Not every plan includes every children's hospital. If your kids see specialists, look up the hospital in each plan's directory.

Straight answers

Orlando family health insurance questions.

What is Florida KidCare, and how do we apply?

Florida KidCare is the state's health coverage program for children under 19. It includes Medicaid for Children, MediKids, Florida Healthy Kids, and the CMS Health Plan for children with special health care needs. You apply at floridakidcare.org, and the program matches each child to the one that fits. The program, not us, decides who qualifies.

Can our kids be on KidCare or Medicaid while we adults buy a Marketplace plan?

A family can mix coverage. If your children qualify for KidCare's CHIP coverage, they can't get Marketplace savings, but you as parents may still get a tax credit. One HealthCare.gov application screens the whole household and sends Medicaid or CHIP matches to the state. You can also check Florida Medicaid on the official state screener. Medicaid and CHIP sign-ups are open all year.

Do family plans include dental for the kids?

Not always. Dental for children 18 and under must be offered, either in a health plan or as a separate dental plan, but you don't have to buy it. In Orange County, 45 of the 208 Marketplace plans for 2026 included child dental. A separate dental plan has to be bought at the same time as a health plan.

We just had a baby. How soon do we need to add them?

You have up to 60 days after the birth to enroll or change plans, and coverage can start on the day your baby was born. The same goes for adoption or placing a child in foster care. We can walk you through the steps.

My job offers family coverage, but it's expensive. Can the rest of my family get a tax credit?

They may, depending on the cost. The test looks at what you would pay for family coverage, not just for yourself. If your share of the family premium is more than a set share of household income, your spouse and children may qualify for a Marketplace tax credit, even if your own coverage counts as affordable. That share is 9.96% for 2026 plan years and 10.22% for 2027.

How much does family health insurance cost in Orlando?

There is no single price. Cost depends on each person's age, your ZIP code, your household income, and any tax credit you get. We can run real quotes for your family, or you can try our pricing calculator for a rough idea.
