Seasonal work?

Busy in summer.
Slower in winter.

Lawn care income goes up and down with the seasons. Three common questions about coverage in lawn care:

My income drops in the slow months.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says some landscaping work is seasonal, busiest from spring through fall. Marketplace help is based on your income for the whole year, not one good month. Count the slow months too.

Can I get help paying for a plan?

You might. The median pay for grounds workers was $19.27 an hour in May 2025. As of October 1, 2026, under current law, Marketplace tax credits are generally for household incomes from 100% to 400% of the poverty line.

I work for myself.

About 1 in 5 grounds workers are self-employed. With no employees, you can shop the individual Marketplace. With 1 or more employees, a small business plan may be an option.

What you get

A plan that lasts
all year.

Guess your income from your busiest month, and you may get less help than you could. Guess from your slowest month, and you may owe money back. Under current law, starting with 2026 taxes, there is no cap on that payback. By the end, you will have:

  • A full-year income estimate that counts slow months
  • A clear answer on tax credits for your household
  • Plans side by side, including bronze plans that can now pair with an HSA
  • A reminder to update your income if business changes

Straight answers

Lawn care health insurance questions.

Is this insurance for my lawn care business?

No. It is personal and family health insurance. Business liability and workers' comp are separate. Workers' comp rules depend on your type of business and how many people you employ. For those, talk to a business insurance agent or the Florida Division of Workers' Compensation.

Is lawn care work risky?

It can be. In 2024, landscaping services had 3.0 injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time workers, compared with 2.3 for all private jobs. BLS says tree trimmers have one of the highest injury rates of all jobs. Check the urgent care near your routes when you compare plans.

How much can my household earn and still get help?

As of October 1, 2026, the extra tax credit help of past years has ended. Under current law, tax credits for 2027 plans generally go to households from 100% to 400% of the poverty line. Using the 2026 poverty guidelines, 400% is about $63,840 for one person and $132,000 for a family of four. Your exact credit depends on your income, household, and zip code.

Is there a deadline to sign up?

Yes. For 2027 plans, open enrollment is Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027. To start Jan 1, sign up by Dec 15. Outside that window, you usually need a life event, like losing job-based coverage.

Do you help lawn crews outside Central Florida?

Yes, in the 30+ states where Paul is licensed. For towns near our home base, see areas we serve.
