Sound familiar?

Long seasons. Late calls.
A hard job on your body.

HVAC work is busy, physical, and the hours can swing. Three common questions about coverage for HVAC work:

My hours change with the weather.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says HVAC techs are often on call and work overtime in peak heating and cooling seasons. Marketplace help is based on what you expect to earn for the whole year. Make a careful guess, and update it if things change.

My job is hard on my body.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says HVAC techs have one of the highest rates of injuries and illnesses of all jobs. So pick a plan you can really use. Check the doctors and urgent care near you before you buy.

I want to go out on my own.

Most HVAC techs work for contractors. About 6% are self-employed. Leaving a job that gave you health coverage? That can open a special time to sign up for a new plan.

How we help

Licensed help with
your own health plan.

Daniels Health Advisors is an independent brokerage with a home base in Central Florida, licensed in 30+ states. For HVAC techs and owners, we compare personal and family plans, starting with the Marketplace, where tax credits may apply. Earn too much for help? We can also show private PPO options. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

In Florida, AC contractors get their license from the state's Construction Industry Licensing Board. Your health plan is a separate thing, and that is where we help.

What you get

Coverage that
fits your season.

Guess your income too low, and you may owe money back at tax time. Under current law, starting with 2026 taxes, there is no cap on that payback. Skip the network check, and your doctor may not be in the plan. When we are done, you will have:

  • A careful income estimate, even with busy and slow seasons
  • Marketplace and private options side by side
  • Your doctors and nearby urgent care checked in each plan
  • Key dates on your calendar, like open enrollment

Straight answers

HVAC health insurance questions.

Does this cover my HVAC business or my workers?

No. This page is about personal and family health insurance. Health insurance and workers' comp do different jobs, and one does not replace the other. In Florida, construction businesses with 1 or more employees generally must carry workers' comp, and some owners can file for an exemption. Ask a business insurance agent or the Florida Division of Workers' Compensation what applies to you.

I'm a union HVAC tech. Do I need this?

Start with your union plan. About 1 in 8 workers in installation, maintenance, and repair jobs were union members in 2025. If your hours drop or you go out on your own, call us and we will compare other options.

Can I write off my health insurance?

Maybe. If you are self-employed and your business makes a profit, your premiums may be deductible on IRS Form 7206. You can't take it for any month you could get a subsidized job plan, including through a spouse. Ask your tax pro.

I'm leaving my HVAC job. Do I have to wait to get a plan?

Often not. Losing job-based coverage can open a special time to sign up. If you miss it, open enrollment for 2027 plans runs Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027.

I take jobs in more than one state. Can you help?

Tell us where you live and where you work. Paul is licensed in 30+ states, and we will check plan networks in the places you spend time. Near Orlando? See areas we serve.
