Common questions

A low monthly price
is only part of the cost.

In 2026, more than half of Lee County Marketplace shoppers picked a Bronze plan. Here are three common questions for people who live in Lehigh Acres.

“Is a Bronze plan right for me?”

It depends on how much care you use. Bronze plans often cost less each month. But they have higher deductibles. If you see doctors often, a Silver or Gold plan may cost less over the full year. We add it up both ways.

“I work in Fort Myers. Which plans can I get?”

Your plan list is based on your home address, not your job. Lehigh Acres and Fort Myers are both in Lee County, so you see Lee County plans. We check your doctors near home and near work.

“Is my hospital in the plan?”

In 2026, 85 of Lee County's 132 Marketplace plans were HMOs. An HMO usually pays only for doctors and hospitals in its network, except in an emergency.

Straight answers

Lehigh Acres health insurance questions.

Which companies offered Marketplace plans in Lee County for 2026?

Lee County plans for 2026 came from 5 companies: Ambetter Health, AvMed, Florida Blue, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 list should be posted around November 1, 2026, when open enrollment starts.

I live in Lehigh Acres but work in Fort Myers. Does that change my plans?

No. Your plans are based on your home address, and both places are in Lee County. If you want a doctor near work, look that doctor up in each plan before you enroll. We can do that with you.

Is HCA Florida Lehigh Hospital in every plan?

Don't assume it is. Each plan picks its own hospitals and doctors, and most Lee County plans are HMOs. Look up the hospital in each plan's directory before you enroll.

Can I get a PPO in Lee County?

Some. Of Lee County's 132 Marketplace plans for 2026, 14 were PPOs. Another 19 were EPOs and 14 were POS plans. Each type has its own rules for doctors outside the network. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

What if my income is very low?

As of October 6, 2026, Florida has not expanded Medicaid. Some adults with income below the poverty level do not qualify for Medicaid or for a tax credit. It is still worth applying, because children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities may qualify. Community health centers also charge based on what you can pay.

When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?

As of October 6, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.

Open enrollment starts November 1
