Common questions

A growing city
still leaves gaps.

Cape Coral is the largest city in Lee County. About 17 in 100 people under 65 in the county had no health insurance in 2024. Here are three common questions for people who live in Cape Coral.

“I just moved to Cape Coral. Can I sign up now?”

Moving to a new ZIP code or county may let you sign up outside open enrollment. You usually have 60 days after the move. Some moves have extra rules, so we check with you.

“Is a Bronze plan right for me?”

It depends on how much care you use. In 2026, more than half of Lee County Marketplace shoppers picked a Bronze plan. Bronze plans often cost less each month. But they have higher deductibles. If you see doctors often, a Silver or Gold plan may cost less over the full year. We add it up both ways.

“Is my hospital in the plan?”

In 2026, 85 of Lee County's 132 Marketplace plans were HMOs. An HMO usually pays only for doctors and hospitals in its network, except in an emergency.

Which companies offered Marketplace plans in Lee County for 2026?

Lee County plans for 2026 came from 5 companies: Ambetter Health, AvMed, Florida Blue, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 list should be posted around November 1, 2026, when open enrollment starts.

I just moved to Cape Coral. Can I get coverage now?

You may. Moving to a new ZIP code or county can qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. You usually have 60 days from the move to pick a plan. Some moves have extra rules, so ask us to check your situation.

Is Cape Coral Hospital in every plan?

Don't assume it is. Each plan picks its own hospitals and doctors, and most Lee County plans are HMOs. Look up the hospital in each plan's directory before you enroll.

Can I get a PPO in Lee County?

Some. Of Lee County's 132 Marketplace plans for 2026, 14 were PPOs. Another 19 were EPOs and 14 were POS plans. Each type has its own rules for doctors outside the network. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

What is the difference between Bronze and Silver plans?

Bronze plans usually have a lower monthly price and a higher deductible. Silver plans cost more each month. But they often pay more when you get care. If your income is low enough, a Silver plan may also come with a lower deductible and copays. Our bronze vs. silver guide explains more.

When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?

As of October 5, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.
