Which company fits you?
People often ask us to name the top insurer in Florida. The honest answer depends on you. Three things decide it:
Each company builds its own network. A good fit is a plan that includes the doctors you already see.
Each plan keeps its own drug list, called a formulary. One drug can cost far less on one plan than on another.
Multiply the monthly premium by 12, then add the deductible and copays you expect. A low premium can still mean a high yearly total.

The 2027 company list
As of October 19, 2026, this list comes from a table the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) posted on October 16, 2026. It is not a ranking. OIR's table names each company; ask us which ones sell in your county.
Where each company sells
Plans from the 12 companies listed as selling there. Buying through the Marketplace is the only way to use a premium tax credit.
ACA plans bought straight from a company or through a broker. ACA rules still apply, but a premium tax credit does not.
Plans that are not ACA plans do not appear in the OIR table. Some of them ask health questions before they accept you.

of them are listed as selling on and off the Marketplace. The other 3 sell off it only.

Working with Paul
Paul Daniels owns Daniels Health Advisors, an independent brokerage licensed in 30+ U.S. states. We do not rank insurance companies. We line up the plans sold in your county side by side, with your doctors, drugs, and budget in mind. We can quote only companies that have appointed us as an agent. Being on OIR's list does not mean a company has appointed us. Ask which ones we can show you. For a wider network, we can also show private PPO options. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.
Want to know which numbers matter most? Our guide to comparing health plans walks through five of them.

A checklist for
Insurance company questions
For 2027, the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation lists 15 companies with approved individual ACA rates. Twelve are listed as selling on and off the Marketplace, and three off the Marketplace only. Not every company sells in every county.
No single company fits everyone. Look for the plan that covers your doctors and drugs at a yearly total you can manage. We compare those side by side for you.
OIR lists each company by its legal name. A company may sell plans under a different brand name. Your plan documents show the legal name of the company that stands behind the plan.
Only for a plan you buy through the Marketplace. The IRS says the premium tax credit is for coverage you enroll in through the Marketplace. Plans bought off the Marketplace do not qualify. For tax questions, talk with a tax professional.
Use the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation's Company Search. It shows companies authorized to do business in Florida. If you have a problem with a company later, the Florida Department of Financial Services can help with complaints.
For a private plan (not from the Marketplace), you can often apply any time of year. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled. Marketplace plans, and other plans that follow ACA rules, work differently. As of October 19, 2026, under current law, open enrollment for 2027 plans runs from November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. As of October 19, 2026, a federal appeal about these dates is pending (City of Columbus v. Kennedy, 4th Cir. No. 26-1938), with oral argument set for October 30, 2026. Confirm the dates before you enroll. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15 (the deadline under current law). Outside those dates, you may need a special enrollment period. Losing job-based coverage is one example.
