For growers, ranchers & farm owners · Licensed in 30+ U.S. states
Coverage for you and your family when crop seasons, livestock cycles, and commodity prices swing your income from month to month.
In the field
Farm income rarely lands in neat twelve equal checks. Three questions growers ask us:
The Marketplace uses your household income for the year you are covered. Estimate the full year from crops, livestock, and any off-farm work, then update it if a season surprises you.
Rural Florida zip codes can have fewer in-network clinics. We check which plans reach the doctors and hospitals you already use before you enroll.
Equipment, livestock, and long days raise injury and strain risk. Look at urgent care, specialists, and physical therapy in each network.

How farm income works
The Marketplace bases tax credits on your household income for the year you are covered.
Farming in numbers
U.S. farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers counted as self-employed in 2025.

Working with Paul
Daniels Health Advisors is an independent brokerage licensed in 30+ U.S. states, run by Paul Daniels. Growers and ranchers reach us when crop or livestock income does not match a city paycheck. Marketplace plans with possible tax credits usually come first. In a strong season, we can also explain private PPO options. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.
In Florida, a state law that took effect July 1, 2025, lets nonprofit farm groups such as Farm Bureau offer member medical benefit plans. Under that law, those plans are not insurance, and they do not carry the consumer protections of Marketplace or other health insurance. Offers change. We do not represent Farm Bureau. We help you compare personal and family health plans so you can weigh any member option carefully.
Your first call
Crops or livestock, when checks usually arrive, and your biggest input costs.
Seasonal spikes and off-farm wages go into one household income estimate.
See which plans reach clinics and hospitals near your farm, not only in the next big city.

Before the next harvest
A better-than-expected harvest can raise your income above the figure you used for tax credits, and the difference settles when you file. Under current law, starting with 2026 taxes, there is no cap on that payback. We also check rural networks carefully. You will leave with:
A checklist for
Farmer questions
No. Membership may open member medical benefit options in some places, but those are not a substitute for comparing regulated health insurance. We do not sell Farm Bureau plans. Bring any offer you have and we will help you compare.
No. H-2A and other farm-employee rules are about your workers, not your personal or family plan. Your plan is still based on your household and how you earn.
Use a careful estimate for the coverage year ahead, based on contracts, typical yields, and any off-farm pay. If the year turns out differently and you get tax credits, report the change.
Both do. Market sales, wholesale invoices, and any crop insurance proceeds you receive as income can all belong in your yearly estimate. Ask your tax pro about your case.
Maybe. If you are self-employed and your business makes a profit, your premiums may be deductible on IRS Form 7206. You can't take it for any month you could get a subsidized job plan, including through a spouse. Ask your tax pro.
For a private plan (not from the Marketplace), you can often apply any time of year. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled. Marketplace plans, and other plans that follow ACA rules, work differently. As of October 14, 2026, under current law, open enrollment for 2027 Marketplace coverage runs from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15 (the deadline under current law). Outside those dates, you may need a qualifying life event, like losing job-based coverage, or another special enrollment period.
