Health coverage for you and your family when you are paid by commission. This page is about your own health plan, not E&O or business insurance.
Sound familiar?
Selling homes can pay well, but the checks don't come on a schedule. Three common questions about coverage for real estate agents:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says most agents are paid by commission, and some go weeks or months without a sale. Marketplace tax credits use your best guess of this year's income, not last year's. If a big deal closes, you can update it.
You are not alone. In the National Association of REALTORS® 2026 Member Profile, only 4% of members said they got health insurance through their firm. About half (48%) paid for it themselves, and 27% got it through a spouse, partner, or family member.
The IRS treats licensed agents as self-employed for federal taxes when almost all of their pay is tied to sales, not hours, and a written contract says they are not employees. So you usually pick your own plan, and your premiums may be deductible. Ask a tax pro what applies to you.

How we help
Daniels Health Advisors is an independent agency from Central Florida, and Paul is licensed in 30+ states. We help agents and brokers pick health plans for themselves and their families. First we see if Marketplace tax credits can lower your cost. Had a big year? We can also show private PPO options for the self-employed. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.
Your real estate license is your business. Your health plan protects you and the people at home. We check your doctors and walk you through each choice.
How it works
Share ages, your zip code, and a full-year income guess that counts slow months and big closings.
We check tax credits first. If you want an HSA, we show plans that work with one.
See plans side by side, with your doctors checked. You choose.

What you get
A low income guess in a slow year can mean a tax bill if sales pick up. As of October 1, 2026, under current law, there is no cap on that payback, starting with 2026 taxes. And a plan without your doctor is hard to use. After our call, you will have:
Straight answers
Use your expected net income for the whole year. For self-employed agents, that is roughly your commissions minus business costs. Report changes to the Marketplace during the year, like a big closing. If your real income ends up higher, you may have to pay back some tax credit. As of October 1, 2026, under current law, there is no cap on that payback, starting with 2026 taxes.
Maybe. As of October 1, 2026, the extra tax credit help of past years has ended. Under current law, Marketplace tax credits are generally for household incomes from 100% to 400% of the poverty line. For 2027 plans, 400% is about $63,840 for one person or $132,000 for a family of 4, based on the 2026 poverty guidelines. If you or your spouse can get a job-based plan, you usually can't get the credit.
Possibly. Self-employed agents with a profit may be able to deduct health premiums using IRS Form 7206. The IRS doesn't allow it for months when you could join a job plan your employer or your spouse's employer helps pay for. A tax pro can tell you what applies.
It can, if you want a lower-premium plan and can save for costs. As of October 1, 2026, under current law, bronze and catastrophic plans work with a health savings account (HSA), starting in 2026. For 2027, you can put in up to $4,500 for one person or $9,000 for a family. A tax pro can tell you how an HSA fits your taxes.
No. This page is about personal and family health insurance. Errors and omissions (E&O) and business insurance are separate. Talk with a business insurance agent about them.
Usually you don't. When a job plan ends, you often get a special window to pick a new plan. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage is Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027.
