Common questions

Your own business.
Your own plan.

In 2026, 95 in 100 Broward County Marketplace shoppers got a tax credit. Here are three common questions for people who live in Plantation.

“I work for myself. What income do I use?”

Use your best honest guess of your profit for the year, after business costs. Count side jobs too. If your income goes up or down, update your application. That helps keep your tax credit closer to right.

“Is my hospital in the plan?”

In 2026, 146 of Broward County's 197 Marketplace plans were HMOs. An HMO usually pays only for doctors and hospitals in its network, except in an emergency.

“Will my tax credit be the same as last year?”

Maybe not. As of October 9, 2026, under current law, the extra help some people got in past years ended after 2025, and Congress has not brought it back. If your income is over 400% of the poverty level, you generally can't get a tax credit. Near that level, your credit may be small.

Plantation health insurance questions.

Which companies offered Marketplace plans in Broward County for 2026?

Broward County plans for 2026 came from 10 companies: 22 Health, Ambetter Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Next, AvMed, Cigna Healthcare, Florida Blue, Molina Healthcare, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 list should be posted around November 1, 2026, when open enrollment starts.

I work for myself. What income goes on my application?

Use your profit for the year, after business costs. That is the same number you report on your tax return for your business. Add other household income too. If your profit ends up higher or lower than you thought, update your application as soon as you can.

Is HCA Florida Westside Hospital in every plan?

Don't assume it is. Each plan picks its own hospitals and doctors, and most Broward County plans are HMOs. Look up the hospital in each plan's directory before you enroll.

Can I get a PPO in Broward County?

Some. Of Broward County's 197 Marketplace plans for 2026, 14 were PPOs. Another 27 were EPOs and 10 were POS plans. Each type has its own rules for doctors outside the network. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

What if my income is very low?

As of October 9, 2026, Florida has not expanded Medicaid. Some adults with income below the poverty level do not qualify for Medicaid or for a tax credit. It is still worth applying, because children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities may qualify. Community health centers also charge based on what you can pay.

When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?

As of October 9, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.

Open enrollment starts November 1
