Common questions

Between jobs?
Keep your coverage going.

In 2026, 95 in 100 Broward County Marketplace shoppers got a tax credit. Here are three common questions for people who live in Dania Beach.

“I lost my job. What happens to my health plan?”

Losing job-based coverage can let you sign up outside open enrollment. You usually have 60 days to pick a Marketplace plan. If you were offered COBRA, compare it with Marketplace plans before you decide.

“Will my tax credit be the same as last year?”

Maybe not. As of October 12, 2026, under current law, the extra help some people got in past years ended after 2025, and Congress has not brought it back. If your income is over 400% of the poverty level, you generally can't get a tax credit. Near that level, your credit may be small.

“Is my hospital in the plan?”

In 2026, 146 of Broward County's 197 Marketplace plans were HMOs. An HMO usually pays only for doctors and hospitals in its network, except in an emergency.

Which companies offered Marketplace plans in Broward County for 2026?

Broward County plans for 2026 came from 10 companies: 22 Health, Ambetter Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Next, AvMed, Cigna Healthcare, Florida Blue, Molina Healthcare, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 list should be posted around November 1, 2026, when open enrollment starts.

I lost my job-based coverage. What can I do?

Losing job-based coverage can qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. You usually have 60 days to pick a Marketplace plan. Our lost job coverage page has more on your choices.

Should I keep COBRA or switch to a Marketplace plan?

It depends on your situation. COBRA lets you keep your work plan for a while, but you usually pay the full premium, plus up to 2%. A Marketplace plan may come with a tax credit based on your household income for the year you are covered. Compare the full-year cost and your doctors in both before you decide. Our COBRA alternatives page has more.

Is Memorial Regional Hospital in every plan?

Don't assume it is. Each plan picks its own hospitals and doctors, and most Broward County plans are HMOs. Look up the hospital in each plan's directory before you enroll.

Can I get a PPO in Broward County?

Some. Of Broward County's 197 Marketplace plans for 2026, 14 were PPOs. Another 27 were EPOs and 10 were POS plans. Each type has its own rules for doctors outside the network. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?

As of October 12, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.
