Common questions

One plan, several people.
Each one needs a fit.

About 1 in 10 people who picked a 2026 Hillsborough County Marketplace plan were children 17 or younger. These are three things Carrollwood parents ask us most.

“Our baby is due this spring. What do we do about coverage?”

A birth lets you add the baby or switch plans outside open enrollment. You usually get 60 days after the birth to act, and the baby's coverage can often go back to the birth date. Call us once you know the date, and we walk you through it.

“Our pediatrician takes one plan but not another. How do we tell?”

You check plan by plan. Doctor lists differ, even between two plans from the same company. Give us your pediatrician's name and office, and we search every plan on your short list.

“What does an HMO mean for our family?”

In 2026, HMOs made up 130 of the 173 Marketplace plans sold in Hillsborough County. With an HMO, care outside the network usually is not paid for unless it is an emergency. That matters if your kids see specialists.

Straight answers

Carrollwood health insurance questions.

Which insurers sold Marketplace plans around Carrollwood for 2026?

Seven companies offered 2026 Hillsborough County plans: Ambetter Health, AvMed, Florida Blue, Molina Healthcare, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, and Wellpoint. The 2027 lineup is expected around November 1, 2026, the first day of open enrollment.

Can our children get Florida KidCare instead?

Some can. Florida KidCare covers many children, based on household income. When you apply for the whole family, the application also checks whether your children may qualify for Medicaid or KidCare. Children who do not qualify can be on the same Marketplace plan as you.

How long can our child stay on our plan?

Under federal law, children can generally stay on a parent's plan until they turn 26. They can be married, in school, or living on their own. Losing that coverage at 26 can open a window for them to sign up for their own plan.

Do all Hillsborough County plans include AdventHealth Carrollwood?

No. Every plan builds its own network, and 130 of the 173 county plans for 2026 were HMOs. Look for AdventHealth Carrollwood in each plan's provider search before you choose.

Are PPO plans sold in Hillsborough County?

Only a handful. For 2026, Hillsborough County had 14 PPOs among its 173 Marketplace plans, plus 19 EPOs and 10 POS plans. The rules for seeing doctors outside the network depend on the type. If your tax credit is small or zero, a private PPO plan may be another option to look at. Some private plans ask health questions, and approval is not guaranteed. Some may not cover care for health problems you had before you enrolled.

When is open enrollment for 2027 coverage?

As of October 13, 2026, under current law, you can sign up from November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates is still on appeal, so check HealthCare.gov. To start coverage January 1, pick a plan by December 15. Outside those dates, you usually need a life event, such as a move or losing other coverage. Our Florida open enrollment guide has the details.

Open enrollment starts November 1
