Questions we hear

Paid when
deals close?

Census Bureau figures put Atlanta's median household income at $85,652. Commission earners here ask us these.

“Some months I close three deals, some months none. What income do I use?”

Use your closest estimate for all of 2027, after business costs like fees and marketing. Update it if your year changes.

“My brokerage doesn't offer a health plan. Where do I start?”

Many independent agents buy their own plan. In Georgia, you can apply on Georgia Access or through an approved enrollment website.

“Can my kids get coverage another way?”

Children may qualify for PeachCare for Kids or Medicaid at some incomes. You can apply for those any time of year.

How we help

Commission-pay help
in Atlanta.

We can line up Georgia plans from more than one insurer. Each one gets a monthly price, net of any tax credit, and a 12-month total.

Agents often get paid long after they do the work. We help you estimate 2027 income from your pipeline, not just last year's tax return.

If your spouse has a job plan, we compare adding the family to it with buying your own.

Some Atlanta plans keep you to a smaller group of doctors and hospitals. We check the ones you use.

Straight answers

Atlanta health insurance questions.

When is open enrollment in Georgia for 2027?

Georgia uses its own exchange, Georgia Access. As of October 26, 2026, Georgia Access lists the 2027 enrollment period as November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates, City of Columbus v. Kennedy, is still on appeal, with argument set for October 30, 2026. Confirm the dates before you enroll. Coverage begins January 1, 2027, if you enroll on or before December 15.

Did Georgia take the ACA Medicaid expansion?

No. KFF, as of October 26, 2026, does not count Georgia among expansion states. Kids may still qualify for Medicaid or PeachCare for Kids.

Can I deduct my premiums?

Some self-employed agents may be able to. Ask a tax professional about your case.

Does Georgia still use HealthCare.gov?

No. Georgia now runs its own exchange, Georgia Access. You apply there or through an approved enrollment website.

What if I join a team that offers a plan?

You can end your Georgia Access plan when the new plan starts. Report the change so any tax credit stops on time.

Is Atlanta in one county?

No. Most of Atlanta is in Fulton County, and part is in DeKalb County.

What should I gather?

Your last tax return, your 1099 forms, and the names of your doctors and medicines.

Do I owe a penalty in Georgia if I go without coverage?

No. As of October 26, 2026, Georgia has no state coverage penalty under current law, and the federal penalty is $0.

Open enrollment starts November 1
