Questions we hear

No employer
plan to fall back on?

About 16 in 100 Mount Pleasant adults ages 19 to 64 had only a plan they bought themselves, per the Census Bureau. Here is what they ask.

“I'm paid on commission. How do I estimate?”

Look at the last year or two, then adjust for what you expect in 2027. If a big closing comes in, update your income.

“My plan renewed itself. Should I check it?”

Yes. Prices, networks, and drug lists can change each year. Open enrollment is the time to compare again.

“I have two employees. Can I cover them too?”

A marketplace plan covers you and your family. For employees, there are separate small-group options. We can explain the difference.

How we help

Yearly check-ups
for your plan.

Because we work with several insurers, we can compare South Carolina plans every year, not only the one you're on. We total the year with the deductible included.

Owners often have a spouse or kids on the same plan with different needs. We list each person's doctors and drugs, then check every plan against the whole list.

Real estate agents and builders can have a slow year after a strong one. We help you pick an estimate that fits your most likely year, then show what changes if it's off.

Some owners pay for a plan through the business and others pay personally. We focus on the plan itself, and leave the accounting to your tax adviser.

If you had a big year, your tax credit may be small or none. We still compare plans, since prices and networks differ.

  • You do not pay us for our help. We are paid by the insurance companies when you enroll. Your price for a plan is the same whether you use us or sign up on your own. Commissions can differ by company.

Straight answers

Mount Pleasant health insurance questions.

When is open enrollment in South Carolina for 2027?

South Carolina enrolls through HealthCare.gov. As of October 19, 2026, under current law, 2027 open enrollment is November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. A federal appeal about open enrollment dates is pending (City of Columbus v. Kennedy, 4th Cir. No. 26-1938), with oral argument set for October 30, 2026. Confirm the dates before you enroll. Enroll by December 15 to begin January 1.

Has South Carolina expanded Medicaid?

No. As of October 19, 2026, South Carolina has not adopted the ACA Medicaid expansion, according to KFF. Some adults with low incomes may not qualify for help. We look at your options.

Can I deduct my premiums if I'm self-employed?

Some self-employed people can. For tax questions, talk with a tax professional.

Will my plan auto-renew if I do nothing?

Often it will, or you'll be moved to a similar plan. It's still worth comparing, since costs change.

Can my spouse's business pay for my plan?

Possibly, depending on how the business is set up. For tax questions, talk with a tax professional.

Is a small-group plan better than buying my own?

It depends on how many people you cover and what you can pay. We can walk through both.

What if my income is too high for a tax credit?

You can still buy a marketplace plan at full price. We compare the yearly cost.

Can I use Charleston-area doctors?

Most plans include local doctors, but not all. We look up yours.

Open enrollment starts November 1
