Questions we hear

On the road,
no health plan?

About 17 of every 100 Memphis residents under 65 had no health coverage, by Census Bureau figures. Drivers here ask us these.

“I get a 1099 for my driving. What income do I put down?”

Use what you expect to earn in 2027 after costs like gas and upkeep. A tax professional can help you sort out those costs.

“What if I get hurt on a route out of town?”

Under current law, Marketplace plans cover emergency care anywhere in the U.S. Regular visits are best near home, in your plan's network.

“The staffing agency offers a plan. Do I have to take it?”

No. You can buy your own plan. A tax credit depends on whether the agency's plan counts as affordable under federal rules. We check the offer.

How we help

Driver help
in Memphis.

Tennessee plans from several insurers go side by side for you. Each shows a monthly price after any tax credit and a full-year cost in a heavy-care year.

Pay from driving can swing week to week. We help you land on one income number for the year.

If you drive for more than one company, we add the pay from all of them. The total is what counts.

Not every Memphis clinic takes every plan. We look up the doctors and hospitals near where you live.

Straight answers

Memphis health insurance questions.

When is open enrollment in Tennessee for 2027?

Tennessee uses HealthCare.gov. As of October 27, 2026, HealthCare.gov gives the 2027 open enrollment window as November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates, City of Columbus v. Kennedy, is still in the courts. Check HealthCare.gov for the latest dates. For a January 1 start, the last day to pick is December 15.

Has Tennessee expanded Medicaid?

No. As of October 27, 2026, KFF shows Tennessee has not adopted the ACA Medicaid expansion. Tennessee's Medicaid program is TennCare, and kids may qualify for TennCare or CoverKids.

Can I deduct my premiums as a contractor?

Some self-employed people may be able to. Ask a tax professional about your case.

What if I take a driving job with benefits?

You can end your own plan when the job plan starts. Tell HealthCare.gov so any tax credit stops on time.

Do I need my 1099 forms?

They help. Your 1099 forms and last tax return give us a better 2027 estimate.

Is Memphis in one county?

Yes. Memphis is in Shelby County.

What info helps on the call?

Your ZIP code, what you think you will make in 2027, and the doctors and drugs you count on.

Is there a plan just for drivers?

No. Drivers pick from the same Tennessee plans as everyone else. What changes is how we count your pay.

Open enrollment starts November 1
