When is open enrollment in California for 2027?

California runs its own exchange, Covered California. As of October 29, 2026, Covered California lists 2027 open enrollment as November 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027. California sets its own enrollment dates through Covered California. Confirm them at CoveredCA.com before you enroll. Enroll by December 31 for a plan that starts January 1. Enroll in January for a February 1 start.

Did California expand Medicaid?

Yes. As of October 29, 2026, KFF lists California as adopting the ACA Medicaid expansion, starting January 1, 2014. In California, Medicaid is called Medi-Cal. One Covered California form checks for both.

Does help with the cost lower dental prices?

No. Covered California says financial help does not apply to dental plans. You pay the full monthly price for adult dental.

Is there a wait for dental care?

It depends on the plan type. Covered California says a dental HMO has no wait. With a dental PPO, adults wait six months for major work. Proof of past coverage may shorten that.

Do kids need a separate dental plan?

Usually not. Kids under 19 already get dental through their Covered California health plan. Some families add a family dental plan for the adults.
