How we help

Family help
in San Antonio.

We work with more than one insurer, so we can put Texas plans side by side. We add the monthly cost and the family deductible for a full-year number.

Family plans often have two deductibles: one for each person and one for the whole family. We explain both so there are no surprises.

If one parent's job offers a plan, we check what it costs to add the family. Under federal rules, the family's cost can matter for help.

Some San Antonio plans have a smaller group of doctors and hospitals. We check the ones your family already uses.

Kids get sick at odd hours. We note what each plan charges for urgent care and video visits.

Straight answers

San Antonio health insurance questions.

When can my family sign up for 2027 in Texas?

Texans enroll on HealthCare.gov. As of October 24, 2026, under current law, the 2027 sign-up season opens November 1, 2026, and closes January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates, City of Columbus v. Kennedy, is still on appeal, with argument set for October 30, 2026. Confirm the dates before you enroll. For coverage on New Year's Day, families should pick a plan by December 15.

Can parents in Texas get Medicaid?

Only in some cases. As of October 24, 2026, KFF lists Texas as a state that has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA. Kids, pregnant women, and parents with very low pay may still get Medicaid or CHIP.

Can I add a new baby?

Yes. A birth lets you change plans within 60 days, and the baby can be covered from the day of birth.

Does Texas have its own exchange?

No. Texas uses HealthCare.gov.

Is dental care included for kids?

Marketplace coverage includes children's dental care in some form, often as a separate dental plan. We show which plans include it.

What if we make too little for a tax credit?

In Texas, some adults with low incomes may not get Medicaid or a tax credit. We look at every option for your household.

Do I need my kids' Social Security numbers?

Have them if you have them, plus birth dates and an income estimate.

Is there a Texas penalty for no coverage?

As of October 24, 2026, under current law, there is no Texas or federal penalty.

Open enrollment starts November 1
