Questions we hear

Paying full price
for a plan?

Overland Park's median household income was $104,834, the Census Bureau reports. People who expect to pay full price here ask us these.

“How do I know if I'll get a tax credit?”

Fill out the application. HealthCare.gov says you get exact prices and any tax credit when you apply. It's based on the income you expect in 2027, not last year's.

“If I pay full price, does the plan level matter?”

Yes. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum split costs in different ways. With no tax credit, the full-year cost of each one matters even more.

“Can I buy a plan outside HealthCare.gov instead?”

Yes. But HealthCare.gov says the only way to get a premium tax credit is through the Marketplace. We help you weigh both.

When does 2027 open enrollment run in Kansas?

Kansas residents enroll through HealthCare.gov. As of October 29, 2026, HealthCare.gov lists 2027 open enrollment from November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates, City of Columbus v. Kennedy, is still in the courts. Check HealthCare.gov for the latest dates. Choose a plan by December 15 for a January 1 start.

Did Kansas expand Medicaid?

No. As of October 29, 2026, KFF lists Kansas as a state that has not adopted the ACA Medicaid expansion. KanCare is the state's Medicaid program for people who qualify.

What income counts for a tax credit?

HealthCare.gov starts with your household's adjusted gross income and adds a few items, like tax-free interest. Your estimate should be for 2027.

What if my income ends up lower than I thought?

Report the change to HealthCare.gov. Your tax credit is then figured again, and you may qualify for one for the rest of the year.

Is there a federal fee for going without a plan?

No. HealthCare.gov says the federal fee for not having coverage no longer applies.

What county is Overland Park in?

Overland Park is in Johnson County, Kansas.

What do I bring to the call?

Last year's tax return, your ZIP code, the age of each person, and a list of your doctors and drugs.

Is a lower monthly price always the better deal?

Not always. A low monthly price can come with a high deductible. We add both up for a year of care.

Open enrollment starts November 1
