Questions we hear

In college
and need coverage?

About 15 in 100 Claremore residents under 65 had no health coverage, the Census Bureau reports. Students and parents bring us questions like these.

“My school has a student plan. Can I still look at the Marketplace?”

Yes. HealthCare.gov says you can apply for a Marketplace plan even if your school offers one. Based on income and household, you might qualify for lower costs.

“My parents claim me on their taxes. Does that matter?”

Yes. If someone claims you as a tax dependent, HealthCare.gov counts their income too. That income helps decide any help you get with costs.

“I'm turning 26. Do I lose my parent's plan right away?”

Not on a Marketplace plan. HealthCare.gov says you can stay on a parent's Marketplace plan until December 31 of the year you turn 26.

How we help

Student help
in Claremore.

We set three paths side by side: your school's plan, staying with a parent, or a Marketplace plan sold around Claremore.

For each one, we check the clinics near campus and near home. If you go to school far from your parents, we check both places.

If you work part-time while in school, we help you add that pay to your household income estimate.

A Claremore plan's doctor list may not match your campus clinic. We search near Rogers State and near home.

When can students sign up for a 2027 plan?

Claremore residents use HealthCare.gov. As of November 3, 2026, HealthCare.gov lists 2027 open enrollment as November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. A court case about these dates, City of Columbus v. Kennedy, is still in the courts. Check HealthCare.gov for the latest dates. For coverage on the first day of 2027, finish by December 15. Signing up after that, through January 15, means a February 1 start.

Did Oklahoma expand Medicaid?

Yes. As of November 3, 2026, KFF lists Oklahoma as adopting the ACA Medicaid expansion, starting July 1, 2021. Oklahoma's Medicaid program is called SoonerCare.

What if I lose my student plan during the year?

HealthCare.gov says losing student coverage can open a Special Enrollment Period. Choosing to drop it on your own does not.

What county is Claremore in?

Can I apply on my own if I live away from my parents?

Yes. HealthCare.gov says you can apply in the state where you go to school, but you still list your parents if they claim you.

Is a student plan always cheaper?

Not always. Depending on your household income, a Marketplace plan with a tax credit could cost less. We compare both.

What do I need for the call?

Where you live and study, your age, any job income, and whether a parent will list you as a dependent.

Are checkups covered?

Plans cover many checkups and screenings at $0 in network, before the deductible.

Open enrollment for 2027 runs Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027.
